An absolute classic back country ride with some of the best views you will ever see by bike. Teams cross the Dart River and head down the western edge of the lake, passing the tourist walking meccas of the Routeburn and Greenstone trails. It's mostly good riding all the way. About half way through the ride teams will have to make a big decision. Continue to cycle over the Afton Saddle (a climb of about 1000m) and follow the track all the way down the amazing Lochy River. Or, take the shorter, flatter route that goes via Hidden Island - there is no established trail and hike a bike is guaranteed - what will that do to sore feet with one big trek left to go?
